A significant new version of Pale Moon is available — a browser that was once an optimized build of Mozilla Firefox but has since evolved into a largely independent project, increasingly incompatible with the original.
This update includes a partial overhaul of the JavaScript engine and implements several changes that may affect the performance of websites. These changes implement versions of JavaScript specifications (also implemented in other browsers) that may not be backward-compatible with previous behavior.
Added:
- Support for Matroska containers and formats based on H264;
- Support for AAC audio format for Matroska and WebM;
- The ability to use spaces in the package name on Mac and in the application name (related to rebranding);
- Exception to the rule restriction domain for font files;
- Support for native file selection for XDG on Linux.
Removed:
- Information about e10s in about:troubleshooting;
- WebIDE developer tool;
- The ability to disable the status bar during compilation;
- The "Remove this page" and "Forget about this site" buttons in live bookmarks (they are meaningless in feeds);
- A special User Agent version for the 'Financial Times', which now independently handles Pale Moon.
Updated:
- Default bookmark icons;
- SQLite library to version 3.29.0.
Other changes:
- Significant changes in the JavaScript parser that implement ES6 transformation to string representation of classes according to ES2018, as well as rest/spread parameters for object literals;
- The behavior of the inner window when changing the domain has been aligned with the behavior of other browsers;
- Improved performance with frame properties;
- Accelerated processing of HTML5 strings;
- Increased speed of image loading;
- From now on, images in SVG format will always be pixel-perfect for clear display;
- Bug fixes.
