The official release of Firefox 69 is scheduled for today, September 3rd, but developers uploaded the builds on the servers yesterday. Release versions are available for Linux, macOS, and Windows, along with the source codes.
Firefox 69.0 is currently available via OTA updates in the installed browser. You can also download the network or full installer from the official FTP. While there are no major innovations in this version, Firefox 69 still brings some improvements for Windows and Mac users.
In the latter case, this refers to increased battery life on Mac computers configured with dual graphics processors. Firefox now selects a more energy-efficient GPU, which reduces power consumption when playing WebGL content. Additionally, the browser now shows the download progress in Finder for macOS users.
On Windows, changes are reflected in performance enhancements. The browser now allows users to correctly set priority levels for specific content. Support for the HmacSecret extension for web authentication in Windows 10 May 2019 Update or later versions has also been added. This extension allows the use of Windows Hello.
Finally, version 69 introduces changes to the Adobe Flash Player plugin. From now on, its execution will have to be approved every time Flash content is detected on a site. Thus, Mozilla continues its path toward completely phasing out the outdated and vulnerable web technology.
