🥇Applications for e-books on the Android operating system. Part 4. Games

In today's fourth (penultimate) part of the article on e-book applications for the Android operating system, we will explore just one, but extensive topic: games.

Summary of the previous three parts of the articleIn the first part detailed reasons why extensive testing of applications for their suitability for installation on e-books was necessary, along with a list of tested office applications.

In the second part of the article, the following two groups of applications were discussed: bookstores and alternative reading applications.

In the third part of the article covered two more groups of applications: Alternative dictionaries and Notebooks, diaries, planners

Of course, the slow black-and-white screens of e-books are not very suitable for games; however, surprisingly, many games turned out to be quite functional.

The technical limitations of the screens played a role, and among the games that successfully passed the tests, there will be no 'runners' or 'shooters'.

Suitable for e-books were logical, text, and math games. In a word – truly educational games that will be beneficial for children.

But of course, one must consider the different levels of difficulty of the tested games: some are suitable for younger schoolchildren and preschoolers, while others can even stump adults.

Another problem that emerged during testing is the significant impact of artifacts on the screen image quality.

They are related to another technical issue of the screens: the presence of 'ghosting' from the previous 'image' on the screen.

While manufacturers have learned to successfully combat this phenomenon when displaying texts (in ONYX BOOX e-books, this technology is called Snow Field), on graphical or mixed pages, 'ghosting' reveals itself in all its glory.

Since games are primarily based on 2D graphics, in some cases, the problem can significantly hinder the gaming process.

To combat artifacts, it is recommended to refer to the eBook's instructions, and if the book offers a forced screen refresh option using hardware or on-screen buttons, it is advisable to use this feature to 'redraw' the screen when the artifact level becomes excessive. For example, in eBooks from the series Darwin and for children ‘My First Book’ this can be done by long-pressing the right side button.

developer (sometimes, applications with the same name can be released by different developers);
purpose of the application;
required Android version;

link to the application in the Play Google store (for more detailed information about the application and reviews; the APK file cannot be downloaded there);
link to download the APK installation file from an alternative source (if available);
note indicating possible features of the application;
several screenshots of the working application.
