Google has released the Chrome OS 77 software platform, granting access to the Google Assistant for most users of devices running this operating system.
Previously, only Pixel device owners could use the voice assistant. With the launch of the new operating system version, Google Assistant will be available on many Chromebooks. To interact with the assistant, simply say "Hey, Google" or click the corresponding icon in the taskbar. Google Assistant enables interaction with the device through voice commands, allowing you to set reminders, play music, and perform other actions.
Another innovation allows users to control sound from one place. This feature will be helpful, for instance, if sound suddenly starts playing from one of the many browser tabs. By clicking the corresponding icon in the bottom right corner of the screen, you'll gain access to the sound control widget.
Additionally, some updates have been made to the parental control mode, "Family Link." It will now be easier for parents to add extra minutes, allowing their children to interact with the device for a longer time.
The updated platform also simplifies the process of sending web pages to other devices. This refers to a feature recently implemented in Chrome 77. To use it, simply click the address bar and select the "Send to another device" option. Furthermore, a new battery-saving feature has been integrated, automatically turning off the device after three days of standby.
In an official statement, Google mentioned that the update will be rolled out gradually over the next few days. This means that the updated software platform will soon be available to all Chromebook users.
