The Pine64 community, which recently announced the production of the free PinePhone smartphone, introduces its new project — the PineTime smart watch.
Key features of the watch:
- Heart rate monitoring.
- A powerful battery that lasts for several days.
- A desktop charging dock for the watch.
- A case made of zinc alloy and plastic.
- Includes WiFi and Bluetooth.
- Nordic nRF52832 ARM Cortex-M4F chip (running at 64MHz) supporting Bluetooth 5, Bluetooth Mesh, a proprietary ANT stack at 2.4 GHz, and NFC-A.
- Exact specifications for RAM and Flash memory have not been confirmed yet, but it is likely to be 64KB SRAM and 512KB Flash.
- 1.3" 240×240 IPS LCD touchscreen.
- Built-in vibration for notifications.
Expected price — only $25.
As the main operating system, it suggests using an open-source real-time OS — FreeRTOS. There are also plans to adapt ARM MBED. However, the community will have the opportunity to adapt other well-known systems for the smart watch.
According to Pine64: “We will allow the community and developers to develop the project in the desired direction.”
