Published release of a free platform for deploying decentralized social networks — Mastodon 3.0, allowing users to create services on their own infrastructure that are not controlled by individual providers. The server-side code of the project is written in Ruby using Ruby on Rails, while the client interface is written in JavaScript using React.js and Redux libraries. Data storage is organized using PostgreSQL and Redis.
An open API development for plugins and connecting external applications is provided (clients are available for Android, iOS, and Windows; bots can be created).

The new release is notable for the discontinuation of support for the
OStatus protocol, which ensured compatibility with older solutions based on StatusNet and GNU Social. Instead of OStatus, it is recommended to use the ActivityPub protocol. The web interface has added support for a profile directory, built-in audio player, an autocomplete system for hashtag input, 'unavailable' tags for remote multimedia attachments, options to disable real-time updates, smooth scrolling, and a dialog for account migration. Two-factor authentication has been implemented with additional email confirmation. Support for hashtags has been expanded and the accuracy of their search has been improved. A spam check component has been added.
