We decided to participate in this charity initiative and changed the website logo until the end of the day.
Our society is often exclusive and rejects people who differ from the created image of norm. This is at least unfair and incorrect. Here are some facts about cerebral palsy:
- Cerebral palsy is not a viral or infectious disease and cannot be transmitted in any way.
- Cerebral palsy has several forms, and often you might not even guess that a person has this issue (think of Sylvester Stallone's distinctive gaze and smile).
- Some consequences of cerebral palsy can be minimized with intensive treatment (unfortunately, expensive). However, cerebral palsy is incurable, and for certain forms, a person's life experience differs from that of others.
- People with cerebral palsy often retain all cognitive functions and emotional status — one can confidently say that they have a great spirit in a frail body.
- Social communication is an important factor for the mental health of people with cerebral palsy. Do not hesitate to befriend, work, communicate online, and be open-hearted.
- Vaccinations, parents' bad habits, financial condition of the family, etc., are not to blame for the occurrence of cerebral palsy — it arises from objective medical reasons.
- Families of those with cerebral palsy who do not abandon their loved ones are great heroes, requiring a special approach. Not pity, not ignorant questions, but respect and, if possible, help, including communication and social support.
- This can happen in any family, regardless of its well-being.
