The publication "Kommersant" citing its sources reported that the streaming service Apple TV+, as expected based on promotional materials, will not have Russian dubbing. Russian subscribers of the service, which will launch on November 1, can only expect localization in the form of subtitles. Apple itself has not specified the issue, but all trailers. are available in English with Russian subtitles.
Representatives of competing Russian streaming services believe that the lack of dubbing or at least voice-over translation indicates that Apple is currently not counting on a wide audience in Russia. They highlight that Apple TV+ is tied to Apple devices (however, subscribers via the service's website can watch all content on any device with a browser).
Reminder: the Apple TV+ service will launch in over a hundred countries, offering entirely original content in the form of series, movies, and cartoons without advertising. The subscription price will be 199 rubles per month, and a 7-day free trial and family access to the materials for six users will be provided. When purchasing new devices like iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple TV, the user receives a free annual subscription to Apple TV+.
Currently, Russian online cinemas like ivi, tvzavr, Premier, "Amediateka", Okko, or Megogo typically acquire films with dubbing already done or order Russian dubbing themselves when purchasing popular shows from rights holders. In the latter case, as "Kommersant" reports, dubbing a popular series released in Russia simultaneously with the US can cost around €300 per minute. For example, dual-voice voice-over from English costs in Russia from 200–300 ₽ per minute, full dubbing costs 890–1300 ₽ per minute, while creating subtitles costs 100–200 ₽ per minute.
