In the new release:
- The first results have been presented on porting MATE applications for Wayland. The image viewer Eye of MATE has been adapted to work without X11 in the Wayland environment. Improved Wayland support has been implemented in the MATE panel. The panel-multimonitor and panel-background applets have been adapted for use with Wayland (system-tray, panel-struts, and panel-background-monitor are marked as available only for X11);
- The 'Startup Applications' configurator now allows the definition of which applications to show upon MATE startup;
- The archive manager Engrampa has added support for additional formats including rpm, udeb, and Zstandard. Functionality has been established for archives secured with a password or utilizing Unicode characters;
- The image viewer Eye of MATE (a fork of Eye of GNOME) now supports embedded color profiles, has revamped thumbnail generation, and implemented support for WebP images;
- The marco window manager has implemented support for invisible borders for resizing windows, removing the need for users to search for the edge to grab the window with the mouse. All window control elements (close, minimize, and maximize buttons) have been adapted for high pixel density screens;
- New modern and nostalgic window decoration themes have been implemented: Add Atlanta, Esco, Gorilla, Motif, and Raleigh;
- The dialogs for switching virtual desktops and task switching (Alt+Tab) have been completely redesigned, making them more customizable, presented in an on-screen display (OSD) style, and supporting keyboard arrow navigation;
- Added the ability to cycle through mosaic windows of different sizes using the keyboard;
- NVMe drive support has been added to the 'System Monitor' applet;
- Scientific calculation mode in the calculator has been improved, allowing for the use of Pi as both 'pi' and 'π', along with fixes related to support for predefined physical constants;
- The control center ensures correct icon display on
on high pixel density screens (HiDPI); - A new application for time management (Time And Date Manager) has been added;
- Acceleration profiles have been added to the mouse configuration application;
- Integration with instant messaging clients has been added to the interface for selecting preferred application handlers, along with improvements for people with disabilities;
- The Indicator applet has improved handling of non-standard size icons;
- Icons in the network settings applet have been completely redesigned and adapted for HiDPI screens;
- A 'do not disturb' mode has been added to the notification manager, allowing the temporary disabling of notifications during important work;
- Errors leading to crashes when changing the panel layout have been fixed in the taskbar. Status icons (notifications, system tray, etc.) have been adapted for HiDPI screens;
- The 'Wanda the Fish' applet, displaying the output of a predefined command, has been fully adapted for high pixel density screens (HiDPI);
- In the window list applet, window thumbnails are now displayed when hovering the cursor;
- Support for systems not using systemd has been implemented; in the screensaver and session manager;
- A new utility for mounting disk images (MATE Disk Image Mounter) has been added;
- The Mozo menu editor now supports undo and redo changes;
- In the Pluma text editor (a fork of Gedit), the option to show formatting markers has been implemented. Pluma plugins have been fully translated to Python 3;
- The internationalization code for all applications has been transitioned from intltools to gettext.
