On February 12, 2020, the LTS version of the Ubuntu distribution was released. Alternative desktop environment versions were also announced: Kubuntu 18.04.4 LTS, Ubuntu Budgie 18.04.4 LTS, Ubuntu MATE 18.04.4 LTS, Lubuntu 18.04.4 LTS, Ubuntu Kylin 18.04.4 LTS, and Xubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.
Key improvements and new features include the following:
- The kernel has been updated to version 5.3. In desktop versions, new kernels will be used by default, while in the server version, they can be selected at will.
- Mesa 19.2, X.Org Server 1.20.5, and libdrm 2.44.99 have been updated after successful testing in version 19.10.
- Drivers for Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA graphics cards (including proprietary NVIDIA 435) have been updated.
- OpenJDK has been upgraded to version 11.
- The snap-tool (utility for managing snap packages) can now retry downloading a package after a failure.
