The Wonderful 101 may get a sequel

Platinum Games' executive vice president Atsushi Inaba and studio senior vice president Hideki Kamiya shared in an interview with Nintendo Everything about the potential sequel to The Wonderful 101.

According to Inaba, the fate of the sequel will depend on the success of the re-release: "If fans support the game and The Wonderful 101 does well, releasing another installment in the series would be quite natural."

Kamiya reminisced about dreaming of a sequel "left and right" before the release of The Wonderful 101 on Nintendo Wii U. The studio knew they had made a great project, but the sales disappointed the developers.

"All these creative and exciting ideas were in the air, and then the game came out, I saw the numbers [sales] and exclaimed: 'Wait, what?!'. Overall, I hope that such desires will capture me again in the future," Kamiya stated.

In the same interview, Hideki Kamiya explained why Platinum Games even turned to Kickstarter for the re-release of The Wonderful 101. According to the game designer, the studio was forced into this step by the game's failure on Wii U.

Journalists from Nintendo Everything spoke with Platinum Games employees even before the launch of the Kickstarter campaign: as of now, with 18 days left in the fundraising, players have contributed over $1.6 million to create the remaster.

The amount reached guarantees the release of The Wonderful 101 on PC (Steam), PS4, and Nintendo Switch, as well as the inclusion of a "Time Attack" mode and a new level - "Luka's First Mission."
