Microsoft prepares exclusives for xCloud and transitions to Scarlett hardware

Microsoft is in discussions with its own and third-party studios to create exclusive games for the cloud service Project xCloud. Company representative Kareem Choudhry confirmed this information at the X019 conference in London during interviews with Australian agencies, emphasizing: "We are not yet ready to share information about specific projects. However, developing a new game and intellectual property takes from one and a half to two years."

Mr. Choudhry noted that the focus is primarily on games that do not require developer effort to port to the cloud, adding: "So right now we have a platform that can run any of the 3,000 games available on Xbox today."

Additionally, certain APIs have been added to Xbox developer tools that allow a game to determine whether it is running in stream mode or not. These application interfaces enable developers to make any changes they desire specifically for streaming: such as adjusting font sizes or network code taking into account that server is located in a data center.

Choudhry also reported that Project xCloud will ultimately transition to the next-generation gaming console platform Project Scarlett: "We designed Scarlett with the cloud in mind, and as our console product family evolves into the next generation, the cloud will also evolve." In this regard, it is interesting whether the Xbox One X generation will be skipped. After all, the current servers xCloud uses Xbox One S hardware.

The Project xCloud is currently in active testing in the UK, US, and South Korea. In 2020, the preview program will expand to more regions and devices.
