Quietly and discreetly, the release of the classic desktop environment CDE took place on November 16. Originally, the project was only available for commercial UNIX systems, but since 2012 it has been open and accessible on modern Linux, *BSD, and Solaris systems.
Brief change list:
- All supported languages are once again compiled by default
- Hundreds of compiler warnings have been fixed
- Thousands of fixes after running the code through Coverity
- A large portion of the code for supporting outdated systems has been removed
- All C functions now conform to the ANSI standard
- All register keywords have been removed from the C/C++ code
- Images, videos, and PDF files now open in their respective applications
- Shortcuts have been added for many modern applications, such as VLC
- The sgml dependency has been removed
- The embedded TCL interpreter has been removed
- Support for aarch64 architecture
- Mouse wheel support in dtterm and dtfile applications
