How HP Support Works - Welcome or No Entry for Outsiders

Hello to all the Habr readers! I want to share a story about my concerns since I don't know where else to complain.

About six months ago, I started to change my gadgets, tired of the Apple life. It seemed to me, and still does, that the folks at the Cupertino company have begun to slow down technology development. We’ve all heard the scandalous news, and I won’t repeat it.

I ruthlessly sold my gadgets and bought new ones, transitioning to a new infrastructure turned out to be costly and complicated. Starting with watches and headphones, the process eventually reached the laptop… I really didn't want to part with my familiar MacBook Pro… In the end, I still took the plunge.

The story began with the first laptop (not HP, they are not involved) which had obvious screen bleed and a terrible microphone. There were also a bunch of other issues clearly covered by warranty. Luckily, I managed to part on a positive note and return the laptop to the seller. I got off easy the first time.

After some time, I purchased an HP Omen 15-Dh0004u and became its happy owner. Not a cheap item (~$2400). I was walking home, imagining how I would install my favorite Linux distribution and forget forever about all the problems and suffering I experienced with the first unfortunate purchase.

The installation started with an unpleasant message, right after selecting the boot option.

Sometimes the message text changed:

And overall, it behaved quite unstably:

Of course, I thought the problem was with me and started reading forums.

After attempting to install about 5 different distributions, using every possible recipe, I realized that the message hinted that ACPI had a clear issue. Moreover, after the latest BIOS updates, the message displayed the same error.

ACPI BIOS error (bug): Could not resolve [SB.PCI0.LPCB.HEC.ECAV], AE_NOT_FOUND (20181213/psargs-330)
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed TZ.FNCL, AE_NOT_FOUND (20181213/pspargs-531)
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed TZ.FN01._ON, AE_NOT_FOUND (20181213/pspargs-531)

I asked a question on a fairly popular askubuntu. Unfortunately, it didn’t help.

At first, I reached out to the warranty department, beginning to explain the issue, that I couldn’t install Linux. The specialist interrupted me and said, I’m not interested in listening further, we only support Windows. You might contact HP support, but that’s a dead end. My optimism didn’t increase…

I wanted to report a problem to HP support. Besides, this support assistant (HP support assistant) kindly offered to answer all the questions that arose.
It's a pity that I didn't save a screenshot of our correspondence. I was told that the issue might resolve itself with the next BIOS updates. Officially, we do not support Linux. Thank you, goodbye!

There is still hope — it's the HP community. And this was the last straw that prompted me to write this article. They simply blocked my message without any reason,

even not leaving a chance for community input.

I want to believe that HP genuinely cares about user support, but my faith is gradually fading.

I hope for wise advice and tips on how to solve such problems. Maybe someone has experienced something similar?
