A new version of Open CASCADE Technology has been released — 7.4.0

Available release
Open CASCADE Technology (OCCT) 7.4.0, a software product with a twenty-year history, combining a set of libraries and tools for software development focused on 3D modeling, particularly for computer-aided design (CAD). Starting with version 6.7.0, the source code is distributed under the GNU LGPL 2.1 license.

OCCT primarily serves as the only current core of geometric modeling with open source under a free license. Open CASCADE Technology is the core or an important component of programs such as FreeCAD, KiCAD, Netgen, gmsh, CadQuery, pyOCCT, and others. Open CASCADE Technology 7.4.0 includes over 500 improvements and fixes compared to the previous version 7.3.0, which was released a year and a half ago.

A new version of Open CASCADE Technology - 7.4.0 has been released

Key innovations:

  • Modeling
    • Reliability, performance, and accuracy of the BRepMesh algorithm have been improved.
    • Parameters for controlling linear and angular deviation for the inner part of faces in BRepMesh.
    • Reliability and stability of logical operations and extrema have been enhanced.
    • Logical operations on open bodies have been included.
    • Option to deactivate history generation, speeding up logical operations.
    • Option to simplify the results of Boolean operations.
    • Calculation of surface and volume properties on triangulations (models without analytical geometry specification).
    • New interface in BRepBndLib returning the final part of volume for geometries with open boundaries.
    • New 'constant throat' modes for creating bevels.
    • API for old logical operations has been removed.
  • Visualization
    • Improved Linux support for embedded platforms.
    • Improved detection performance.
    • Support for combinations of clipping planes.
    • New class AIS_ViewController for handling user input (mouse, touch screen) in camera manipulation.
    • Improved font management.
    • Expanded tools for analyzing rendering performance.
    • Display of outlines of shaded objects.
    • Option to exclude geometry seams when displaying the wireframe.
    • Display of an object with a dynamic texture (video).
    • Reading compressed raster images from memory.
    • Removal of deprecated local context functionality from AIS.
    • Removed dependency on gl2ps (based on deprecated OpenGL functionality).
  • Data exchange
    • Export of XCAF document (with assembly structure, names, and colors) to VRML file.
    • New tools for importing data from glTF 2.0 and OBJ formats
    • Support for some non-ASCII encodings in STEP import.
      Draw test environment
    • Improved camera control in the 3D viewer
    • Fixed issues with launching Draw from batch scripts.
    • Enhanced support for running Draw in a non-CASROOT environment.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Improved performance of built-in parallelization procedures (OSD_Parallel)
    • Tools for convenient and effective traversal of the BVH tree
    • Optimization of the view attribute TPrsStd_AIS
