On November 26, 2019, a new version of Kali Linux was released — a Linux distribution based on Debian testing and designed for security auditing. The distribution includes utilities that can be used for network testing, unauthorized access to data or network services, and disruption of their operation. The distribution can also be useful for investigating security breaches on already compromised and suspicious systems.
There is a version of the distribution for arm devices and Android devices (installed and run using Linux Deploy).
What's new in Kali Linux 2019.4:
- Xfce has become the default desktop environment of the distribution.
- A new GTK 3 theme for Gnome and Xfce.
- The OS kernel has been updated to version 5.3.9.
- The 'Undercover' mode — in which the operating system's graphical interface resembles the Windows 10 interface.
- The distribution's documentation has been translated into Markdown and is available at GitLab. The documentation includes descriptions of procedures for creating custom packages for the distribution, as well as custom builds of Kali Linux. An installation guide using BTRFS for the root file system has been added.
- The distribution packages include PowerShell.
- NetHunter Kex — the ability to use mobile devices with Android OS as workstations with Kali Linux. Simply connect the mobile device to a display device, a Bluetooth keyboard, and mouse — and achieve a full replacement for a personal computer with Kali Linux.
