Release of the anonymous network I2P 0.9.44

Introduced release I2P 0.9.44, implementing a layered anonymous distributed network that operates over the regular internet, actively utilizing end-to-end encryption to ensure anonymity and isolation. In the I2P network, users can anonymously create websites and blogs, send instant messages and emails, share files, and organize P2P networks. The basic I2P client is written in Java and can run on a wide range of platforms, such as Windows, Linux, macOS, Solaris, etc. Development is ongoing separately. I2pd, an implementation of the I2P client in C++.

In the new release of I2P:

  • Initial support for a more reliable and faster end-to-end encryption method has been proposed, based on the ECIES-X25519-AEAD-Ratchet combination instead of ElGamal/AES+SessionTag. The implementation is currently only offered for experimentation and is not ready for end users;
  • The routing code has been modified to support multiple types of encryption;
  • In the BitTorrent client i2psnark new built-in HTML5 multimedia players have been introduced and playlists for audio content have been added;
  • The layout of the console home page has been changed;
  • On the Windows platform, data for new installations is now placed in the %LOCALAPPDIR% directory;
  • A problem with tunnel construction that caused delays during startup has been resolved;
  • A vulnerability that could lead to denial of service when processing hidden services using new types of encryption has been fixed.
