After adding Internet Kiosk mode in Firefox 71 Mozilla developers downward API support (simultaneously with this in Firefox, based on which the Firefox 73 release will be formed, will offer the ability to open links using the '' (SSB) concept. The new mode restricts opening links in a window only to pages from the current site (external links will open in a separate browser window), and also hides the menu, address bar, and other browser interface elements.
Unlike the previously added kiosk mode, this operates not in fullscreen mode, but in a regular window, without Firefox-specific interface elements. This new capability allows web applications to be used like regular desktop programs. To open a link in SSB mode, the command line flag '--ssb' can be used when creating shortcuts for web applications, and 'Launch Site Specific Browser', located in the page actions menu (accessible through the ellipsis on the right of the address bar).
Additionally, it is worth mentioning to mandate the use of two-factor authentication for add-on developer accounts. When connecting to addons.mozilla.org, a verification code will be additionally requested, by a separate application (FreeOTP, Authy, Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, andOTP, or KeepassXC). This change is planned to be implemented in early 2020. It is expected that enforced two-factor authentication will help prevent unauthorized access in case of developer account parameter leaks and protect against hijacking control of add-ons by malicious actors.
