The official position of the Program Committees of Highload++ and other IT conferences regarding the claims against Igor Sysoev and Maxim Konovalov
An attack on Igor Sysoev, an outstanding programmer and creator Nginx, of a product distributed under a free license, meaning it is available to everyone for free use and examination of the source code, is a blatant act of aggression against the entire industry.
We express our support for Igor and want to especially highlight his contribution to the development of the industry; Igor laid the foundation for the quality operation of over 80% of all high-load resources in the RuNet. He and his product became the catalyst that allowed Russian services to be competitive in the global market and occupy leading positions in the development of projects that can handle high loads.
We are establishing an award, presenting it to the best developers while actively supporting and promoting any developments that Russian programmers are involved with. And what do we end up with? One of the market players turns out to be uninterested in the development of this market.
We also want to emphasize that the claims against open-source products in general, and against nginx in particular, cast doubt on the economic security of the largest Russian and global services using nginx and other open-source products. Moreover, such actions will negatively affect the investment climate in the IT industry of Russia and may lead to the degradation of the industry itself.
We strongly condemn the actions of the prosecution's initiators and call on the technical specialists of these companies to convey to their management the absurdity and monstrosity of what is happening.
The situation where every programmer must consider the legal safety of their actions with every commit in an open-source project seems to us a stop-factor for the development of the industry.
