Proton 4.11-11 Update, a package for running Windows games on Linux

Valve Corporation released new release of the project Proton 4.11-11, which is based on the developments of the Wine project and aims to enable the launch of gaming applications created for Windows on Linux, available in the Steam catalog. The project's developments is distributed under the BSD license.

Proton allows the direct launch of gaming applications supplied only for Windows in the Linux Steam client. The package includes an implementation of DirectX 9/10/11 (based on the package DXVK) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d), which operates through translating DirectX calls into the Vulkan API, provides enhanced support for game controllers, and allows full-screen mode usage regardless of supported screen resolutions in games.

In new version:

  • The layer DXVK updated to version 1.5, which there have been merges with the codebase of the D9VK project and brings support for Direct3D 9. Thus, DirectX 9, 10, and 11 in Proton are implemented based on DXVK, while Direct3D 12 is based on vkd3d;
  • Ensured compatibility with the latest update of the game GTA5;
  • Support has been reinstated for management mouse cursor movement with keyboard buttons;
  • Resolved the issue with cursor lag during long-running game sessions.
