Andrey Shitov, a renowned Perl developer, decided this year to experiment with as many programming languages as possible and share his experiences with readers.
Programming languages are amazing! You fall in love with a language as soon as you write a few test programs. The more you explore, the better you understand the language and the ideas underlying its foundation.
In this year's advent calendar (from December 1 to December 24), I will publish daily articles discussing the basics of different programming languages: one day — one language. To make the reviews more useful, I will try to stick to a consistent format and cover the aspects of the language necessary for writing the following mini-projects:
- Hello, World!
- A function that calculates the factorial recursively or in a functional style
- A program that creates an array of objects and performs polymorphic method calls on them
- An implementation of sleep sort. This algorithm is not used in real scenarios but wonderfully demonstrates the capabilities of the language in terms of concurrency.
