Release of the mobile OS Sailfish 3.2.1.

Jolla Company released the release of the Sailfish OS 3.2.1. Builds are prepared for Jolla 1, Jolla C, Sony Xperia X, Xperia XA2, Gemini, Sony Xperia 10 devices, and are already available as an OTA update. Sailfish utilizes a graphical stack based on Wayland and Qt5 libraries, with the system environment built on Mer, which has been supporting is being developed as part of Sailfish, and packages from the Mer distribution Nemo. The user interface, core mobile applications, QML components for building graphical interfaces with Silica, the layer for running Android applications, smart text input engine, and data synchronization system are proprietary, but their code was planned to be open-sourced back in 2017.

In new version:

• The developers of the mobile operating system 'Aurora' (a localized version of Sailfish OS from Rostelecom) have added the following improvements:
  • A HTTPS connection indicator has been added to the address bar of the browser;
    
  • The mail client now allows forwarding messages with HTML markup as attachments;
  • Support for accounts in the NextCloud cloud storage has been added (will be activated in the next release);
  • Issues with ActiveSync in the calendar planner have been resolved;
  • The ability to use iptables with matches based on iprange and GRE protocol (for filtering packets in PPTP) has been added;
  • Support for enabling developer mode without an internet connection and Jolla account has been ensured;
  • In the mobile device management (MDM, Device Management) tools, control over VPN settings via Connman and the ability to block the browser have been added;
  • Support for CSV format has been added to the document viewer, and support for XLSX and RTF has been improved; issues with Cyrillic representation of data in RTF have been resolved;
  • In the multimedia player, dynamic detection of hardware codecs has been ensured;
  • The message viewing interface in the messenger has been revamped, and the detailed information display interface has been improved;
  • Support for SmartPoster NFC tags has been implemented;
  • The interface style for making calls has been redesigned;
    
  • The design of tab headers has been reworked;
  • Improved handling of VPN connections and detection of authentication errors for VPN;
  • Enhanced support for L2TP VPN, PPTP VPN, OpenConnect, and OpenVPN;
  • Vulnerabilities CVE-2016-3189, CVE-2019-12900, CVE-2019-9169, CVE-2014-2524, CVE-2018-20843, and CVE-2019-15903 have been fixed.
• The modernization of the messaging interface has been continued;
  
• Issues with accounts in Twitter and Nextcloud have been resolved;
• The compatibility layer for Android has been updated to Android 8.1. Issues with WhatsApp and YouTube apps have been addressed;
• The scheduler calendar synchronization with Google Calendar has been improved;
• Problems with using SSH over USB in developer mode have been resolved. Key authentication is used for SSH connections instead of the root user;
• The document viewer now automatically detects encoding in text files;
• The design of the sender parameters field in the email client has been changed;
• Support for hardware decoding of HEVC/h265 video has been implemented for Sony Xperia devices;
• The capability to encrypt the user data partition has been implemented for the Xperia 10 device;
• A section with encryption options has been added to settings ('Settings > Encryption').
