The portfolio of switches from Extreme Networks has been expanded with the ExtremeSwitching X465 family, which includes six models featuring copper ports (the release of optical models is expected soon). Essentially, the ExtremeSwitching X465 represents the third generation and a logical continuation of the Summit X460 and Summit X460G2 switches. They are 'universal' in the sense that they can be installed at any level of the network, whether in access, core, or distribution. , , , — in fact, X465 is the first series of switches that supports all these technologies simultaneously.
The lineup consists of four Gigabit and two Multi-Gigabit switches, all models support stacking. However, only the Multi-Gigabit models support 'Insight architecture', and therefore have increased RAM and CPU.

The high-budget PoE++ combined with multi-speed 100M/1G/2.5G/5G access ports allows for connecting Wave 2 or WiFi 6 APs, PoS terminals, modern LED fixtures, or PTZ IP cameras, IoT devices, or laying the infrastructure for connecting next-generation access devices. The X465 switches also support with some models having a total PoE budget of up to 3500W.
X465 can be used as a 'Control Bridge' for organizing the architecture of and connecting V400/V300 port extenders. The V300 series VPEX can be powered by the X465 via PoE++ (90W or 60W)
For instance, by connecting and powering 48 VPEX from the X465 switches, and utilizing 'Insight architecture' for setting up a VM with a firewall + NAT, or a WiFi controller, the network architecture can be significantly simplified, as well as saving on power and other capital infrastructure.
