Google is working on a global media control feature for Chrome that allows users to manage multimedia content playing in the background. This will enable playing and pausing regardless of whether the browser is minimized.
Last weekend an update for the web browser was released, implementing this capability on Windows 10. In the new version, it is possible to control playback directly from the browser's toolbar.
By default, all features should start automatically, but if this does not happen, you need to activate the corresponding flag. To do this, go to the flags list chrome://flags and set Enabled for Global media controls, then restart the browser to apply the changes.
After restarting, the play button should appear on the toolbar whenever there is an audio source playing in the background or foreground. It's important to note that this is already available in the stable branch of the browser, not in Canary or Dev. This means that all users of the 79th build can already try out the new feature. It will allow you to mute audio with a simple click instead of searching for the tab among dozens of others.
Currently, the feature works with YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Dailymotion, and Microsoft. It is likely that the number of supported services will expand in the future.
