Microsoft is currently working on Windows 10 (2004) or 20H1. This build is expected to be released in the spring of this year, and it’s reported that the main development phase has already been completed. Windows 10 Build 19041 is considered a release candidate for the new version, although this has not been officially confirmed yet. However, there is a preview watermark on the desktop in this build, which indirectly indicates the nearing release.
The 2004 build is expected to bring a lot of new features. For instance, an improvement to the Windows Update Center, where users can track not only security patches but also new driver versions. Additionally, it will allow limiting the bandwidth specifically for downloading updates. There is also a declared capability to reinstall the system from the cloud.
Moreover, Microsoft is focusing on enhancing the overall performance of the system. In particular, this will impact the file searching and indexing system. These operations will become less demanding on the speed of the disk subsystem and will stop overloading the processor.
Overall, the spring update should, apparently, resolve the issues of the Windows 10 November 2019 Update. Interestingly, the November patch was intended for the same purpose — it was supposed to fix issues with earlier builds. One can only hope that Redmond will finally start properly testing their products.
Let’s recall that the issues with File Explorer in Windows 10 are still not resolved. The developers stated that they will address this after the holidays, as the problem is not a priority.
