Online retailers Ozon and Ak Bars Bank have successfully tested the ‘instant account’ feature of the fast payment system (FPS), which allows purchases in online stores through the Central Bank of Russia's service without a QR code.
According to official representatives of the Central Bank, 36 banks have already connected to this system, but currently, only 8 of them are testing payments for goods and services. The Central Bank expects that the system will be fully deployed this year. The purchasing process uses new technology: in the relevant mobile app of the store, customers should select the payment method 'via FPS'.
It is reported that this new payment method is beneficial for both buyers and sellers. The new system allows sellers to avoid high acquiring fees, while providing customers with a more convenient way to make purchases. Experts noted that paying via QR code is inconvenient for online stores, as the customer cannot scan the code on their smartphone screen, and entering details requires too many additional steps and time.
The Association of Internet Trade Companies emphasized that the widespread adoption of the payment function via FPS will only occur after Sberbank connects to it.
