The SRE Slurm starts in Moscow on February 3rd.
This is the first intensive course where we have moved away from the 'Follow the Instructor' model. You will work on an SRE project that closely simulates real-world conditions.
You will have a fully functional project in your hands and work on it in real-time. A typical SRE task awaits you: dealing with unfamiliar code, synchronization issues in distributed systems, and communication challenges with colleagues.
You will encounter non-trivial system failures based on real-life scenarios. (I occasionally hear speakers say: 'Colleagues, excuse me, I won't be able to join meetings in the next two days, but there is a great case for our program').
Incidents will evolve rapidly, considering that every second is lost profit for our training company.
We will divide participants into teams. Each team will have a mentor, one of the course speakers. Each team is responsible for its own backend. As incidents unfold, you will need to organize work within your team and collaborate with other teams. We play for points: judges will remove and add points so that teams can see how adequate and effective their actions are. At the end, we will announce the winner.
After each incident, there will be a debriefing where we will identify and fix systemic issues in our processes. Mentors will ensure adherence to a blameless culture during post-mortems. The blameless approach is not yet widespread in our region, but it is one of the keys to implementing SRE and DevOps.
We aim to achieve a paradigm shift in three days: to teach you to think like an SRE engineer and view the project through the lens of an SRE engineer.
To participate, you will need a laptop, a headset, and a basic knowledge of Kubernetes. If you lack the last point, you can take an online course during the remaining time. .
