MediaTek has announced the Helio G80 processor, designed for use in relatively affordable smartphones with gaming capabilities.
The chip features an octa-core configuration, including two ARM Cortex-A75 cores with a clock speed of up to 2.0 GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of up to 1.8 GHz.
The graphics subsystem includes the ARM Mali-G52 MC2 accelerator, supporting Full HD+ displays with a refresh rate of up to 60 Hz.
The platform supports wireless connectivity via Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac, as well as satellite navigation systems GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, and Galileo.
Smartphone developers using the Helio G80 will be able to equip their devices with cameras up to 48 million pixels. Additionally, support for dual cameras with 16 million pixel sensors is mentioned.
The production of the processor is entrusted to TSMC — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The manufacturing process will utilize FinFET technology, with production standards of 12 nanometers.
