Synology has released the DiskStation DS220j — an entry-level network-attached storage system designed for home or office use.
The new model is powered by a quad-core Realtek RTD1296 processor with a clock speed of up to 1.4 GHz. It has 512 MB of DDR4 RAM.
It allows the installation of two 3.5 or 2.5-inch SATA 3.0 drives. The maximum supported internal capacity is 32 TB.
The device is equipped with one Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45) port and two USB 3.0 ports, all concentrated on the back panel. Cooling is handled by a 92mm fan. The storage measures 165 × 100 × 225.5 mm and weighs 880 g (without installed drives).
The new model operates under Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) — a network operating system that provides private cloud services. With the support for a wide range of network protocols implemented in the Synology DS220j, file sharing between Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms is seamless. The Cloud Sync tool allows synchronization of Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Baidu, and Box storage with the home DiskStation system.
Synology Drive Client tools provide real-time or scheduled backups of important folders on computers to prevent accidental deletion and protect against ransomware.
