Development of TrueOS (formerly PC-BSD) has been discontinued

At the iXsystems forum, in response to the question "Is the development of TrueOS ongoing?", PC-BSD founder Kris Moore to explain: "Currently, the main developers TrueOS have stopped working on the system. Right now, we are busy with TrueNAS Core, but as soon as we have free time, the site and repositories (TrueOS) will be disabled."

According to Moore, for the last couple of years, TrueOS has mostly been a hobby project for a few iXsystems employees. However, lack of interest from the community, along with the intense work on TrueNAS, led to the project's halt. The previously based TrueOS distribution Trident has already transitioned switched to using Void Linux. The developers of GhostBSD did not plan to leave TrueOS due to the dependency on the OpenRC system manager, but will likely be forced to return to FreeBSD as a base.
