Company Google announced the release of the second beta version Android 11: Developer Preview 2. The full release of Android 11 is expected in the third quarter of 2020.
Android 11 (codenamed —Android R during development) — the eleventh version of the Android operating system. It has not yet been released. The first developer preview of 'Android 11' was released on February 19, 2020, as a factory image for supported Google Pixel smartphones (excluding the first-generation Pixel and Pixel XL). This is the first of three monthly developer previews that will be released ahead of the first beta version at Google I/O in May. The 'platform stability' status will be announced in June 2020, with the final release expected in the third quarter of 2020.
The company has prepared a beta testing program, for which firmware images are offered for the following devices:
- Pixel 2 / 2 XL
- Pixel 3 / 3 XL
- Pixel 3a / 3a XL
- Pixel 4 / 4 XL
For those who have already installed the first beta version, an OTA update.
The main changes compared to the first beta release are:
- 5G state API included in the build. This allows for quick detection of connection via 5G networks in New Radio or Non-Standalone modes.
- An API has been added to receive information from the angle of foldable phone sensors, which allows precise determination of the screen angle and adjusts the output on the screen accordingly.
- The phone API has been expanded with capabilities for auto-dial detection, identification of caller ID spoofing, and automatic addition to spam or the address book from the call end screen.
- The features of the Neural Networks APIhave been extended to leverage hardware acceleration for machine learning.
- Background services for the camera and microphone have been introduced, allowing access to them in inactive mode.
- To provide smoother keyboard animation, API functions have been added to convey information about its appearance and status to the application.
- API functions have been added to manage screen refresh rates in applications, which can be critical in games.
