AMD has officially announced that it will cease support for the StoreMI technology, which allows for the combination of hard drives and solid-state drives into a single logical volume, starting March 31. The company also promised to introduce a new version of the technology with enhanced features in the second quarter of this year.
StoreMI technology was introduced alongside the Ryzen 2000 series processors (Pinnacle Ridge) and the corresponding 400 series chipsets. Subsequently, AMD added support for the X399 chipset for Ryzen Threadripper, and later for the Ryzen 3000 series processors (Matisse) and the X570 system logic.
The technology not only enables the combination of hard drives and solid-state drives into a single logical volume but also allows users to benefit from high-speed operation. This is achieved through corresponding software that analyzes data, highlights the most frequently used ones, and stores them on the faster drive. AMD developers claim that using StoreMI can make Windows boot 2.3 times faster. In terms of applications and games, their loading is accelerated by 9.8 and 2.9 times, respectively.
As of March 31, the StoreMI software is no longer available for download. Users who have managed to download StoreMI can continue to use the disk merging technology. However, the developers warn that the company's resources will be redirected to create a replacement, so technical support for the current version of the software will not be provided. AMD also does not recommend downloading StoreMI from third-party sources, as security cannot be guaranteed in such cases. As a temporary alternative, users are advised to consider other solutions like Enmotus FuzeDrive.
