The new version of the GNU Awk interpreter 5.1

Introduced a new significant release of the AWK programming language implementation from the GNU project — Gawk 5.1.0. AWK was developed in the 1970s and has not undergone significant changes since the mid-1980s, when the core structure of the language was established, allowing it to maintain its original stability and simplicity over the decades. Despite its age, AWK is still actively used by administrators for performing routine tasks related to parsing various types of text files and generating simple resulting statistics.

Key changes:

• The API version number has been raised to 3 (reflects changes in the 5.x branch);
• Memory leaks have been fixed;
• Updated build infrastructure components: Bison 3.5.4, Texinfo 6.7, Gettext 0.20.1, Automake 1.16.2.
• The indexing in the documentation has been reworked, now requiring Texinfo 6.7 for formatting;
• Support for MSYS2 has been added to the configure script;
• Accumulated bugs have been fixed.
