The founder of Void Linux changed the license for his XBPS fork

Juan Romero Pardines, after the breakup of relations with the other developers of Void Linux, translated his fork of the XBPS package manager (X Binary Package System) to a 3-clause BSD license. Previously, the project used a 2-clause BSD license, similar to the MIT license. Among other plans, the running new project and the intention rewrite xbps-src.

The new version of the XBPS license includes a clause that prohibits the use of the XBPS name and the names of the developers to promote derivative products without obtaining special written permission. Thus, the developers of Void Linux will not be able to port future changes from the new XBPS repository without renaming the package manager or obtaining explicit consent from Juan. However, they can continue to develop their XBPS branch, which remains under the BSD-2 license.
