Mozilla has announced the launch of testing for a new service called Private Relay, which generates temporary email addresses. Such addresses are suitable, for example, for registering on websites. This allows users to avoid providing their actual email address, thereby reducing spam and unwanted promotional messages.
To use the Private Relay service, users will need to install the corresponding extension for the Mozilla Firefox browser. This extension will enable the generation of unique email addresses with the click of a button. The address created this way can be used for website registrations, subscriptions to informational and promotional newsletters, and more.
"We will forward emails from the generated email address to the user's real address. If any of the generated addresses starts receiving unwanted mail, you can block or completely delete it," Mozilla stated.
The concept of creating temporary email addresses is not new. With Private Relay, the developers hope to provide users with a simple solution for easily creating and deleting temporary email addresses. It's worth noting that Mozilla is not the first major tech company developing in this area; Apple previously announced a similar service.
Currently, the Private Relay service is in closed beta testing. Open beta testing, which will allow anyone interested to participate, is expected to launch at the end of this year.
