Release of the atomically updatable unique distribution Endless OS 3.8

Published distribution release Endless OS 3.8, aimed at creating an easy-to-use system where applications can be quickly selected to suit individual preferences. Applications are distributed as self-contained packages in Flatpak format. The size offered of the boot images ranges from 2,7 up to 16.4 GB.

The distribution does not use traditional package managers; instead, it offers a minimal atomically updating base system that operates in read-only mode and is built with the aid of tooling OSTree (the system image is atomically updated from a Git-like repository). Recently, similar ideas to Endless OS have been to standardize replicated by the Fedora developers within the Silverblue project aimed at creating an atomically updating variant of Fedora Workstation.

Endless OS is among the distributions promoting innovations in user-friendly Linux systems. The desktop environment in Endless OS is based on a significantly revamped fork of GNOME. Moreover, the Endless developers actively participate in upstream projects and contribute their developments. • The Linux kernel 5.4 has been utilized. The system environment has been updated: systemd 244, PulseAudio 13, Mesa 19.3.3, NVIDIA driver 440.64, VirtualBox Guest Utils 6.1.4, GRUB 2.04.
