Since last fall, China has started producing 'national' 3D NAND flash memory. These are 64-layer chips from YMTC. Chinese SSD controller developers immediately showed interest in this product. Chinese memory and Chinese controllers. aim to break the monopoly of foreign data storage manufacturers, which is driven by national security concerns. Recently, one of these products was introduced.

As reported by the online resource , Jiangsu Huacun Electronic Technology (Jiangsu Hua Sun) has developed the HC6002 controller for client-level SSDs — designed for mass desktop PCs and laptops. Based on the new controller, a series of consumer SSDs Phoenix MMSP350 M.2 NVMe has been developed, with capacities of 128, 256, 512, and 1000 GB.
The SSD Phoenix MMSP350 controller uses a PCIe 3.0 interface with support for the NVMe 1.3 protocol. Unfortunately, the company does not disclose the name of the flash memory chip supplier. In the image above, the memory chips on the drives are branded with Jiangsu Hua Sun's own label 'MMY'. Most likely, the manufacturer procures wafers with chips and cuts them into dies and packages them.

But now the focus is on the controller. It is reported that the sustained read speed on the Phoenix MMSP350 SSDs using four PCIe 3.0 lanes reaches 2 GB/s, while the sustained write speed is 1.6 GB/s. At least, these data are confirmed by benchmarks in CrystalDiskMark. As we can see, the Chinese are managing well with at least part of the task — developing controllers for SSDs. And the memory, even if it is not local right now, will improve over time. That time is not far off. By the end of the year, YMTC will begin the production of one of the highest-capacity 3D NAND in the industry with 128 layers.
