Creative Assembly and SEGA have announced Total War: Elysium — a collectible card game that will be distributed under a free-to-play model. The game involves creating decks from various historical figures and troops, set in the fictional city of Elysium.

Developers state that in Total War: Elysium, players need to build diverse decks and seek ways to dominate the battlefield. Creative Assembly also clarified that the franchise is venturing into new genres while "staying true to its strategic formula."
The game takes place in the city of Elysium, where the greatest generals from different countries and historical eras have gathered. For instance, alongside Napoleon Bonaparte, the project will feature the Chinese general Cao Cao. In addition to historical figures, Total War: Elysium includes many maps of real combat units, such as mangonels and triremes.
The upcoming card game will feature a single-player mode and multiplayer. Key gameplay elements of Elysium include the ability to edit decks right in the middle of a match and the "Daybreak" mechanic, allowing players to change the battlefield along with the conditions of the duel.
Total War: Elysium will be released on mobile platforms this month, while the PC version will appear later in 2020.
