Oracle Linux 8.2 distribution is now available

Oracle Corporation released release of the industrial distribution Oracle Linux 8.2, based on the package base Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2. For unlimited downloads, but after free registration, is available installation ISO image, sized 6.6 GB, prepared for x86_64 and ARM64 architectures. For Oracle Linux is open unrestricted and free access to the yum repository with binary package updates addressing bugs (errata) and security issues. For download also are prepared separately supported Application Stream modules.

In addition to the kernel package from RHEL (based on kernel 4.18), Oracle Linux offers its own kernel Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 6, based on Linux kernel 5.4 and optimized for working with Oracle industrial software and hardware. The source code of the kernel, including the breakdown into individual patches, is publicly available in Git repository Oracle. The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is installed by default, positioned as an alternative to the standard RHEL kernel package and provides a number of enhancements the features, such as DTrace integration and enhanced Btrfs support. Except for the kernel, functionality the releases of Oracle Linux 8.2 and RHEL 8.2 are completely identical (changelog in Oracle Linux 8.2 mirror changelog in RHEL 8.2).
