OpenIndiana is a community project that continues the OpenSolaris project.
The OpenIndiana Hipster 2020.04 release features the following updates:
- All OI-specific applications have been migrated from Python 2.7 to 3.5, including the Caiman installer (slim_source).
- Installation images no longer contain Python 2.7, although some programs may still depend on it.
- GCC7 is now the primary system compiler, with versions 8.4 and 9.3 also available.
- LibreOffice 6.4 has been added.
- PKG now uses rapidjson instead of simplejson, reducing memory consumption when handling large package directories.
- Many packages have been updated.
