After a 5-year hiatus, the Finnix distribution has revived with the release of version 120. Finnix is a live CD distribution based on Debian, designed for system administrators and aimed at managing hard drives and partitions, monitoring networks, and recovering boot records.
The new version is the first release of the project for the x86_64 architecture.
New Features:
- Support for the x86 architecture has been completely discontinued; the distribution is now exclusively focused on the x86_64 architecture and the AMD64 kernel.
- BIOS and UEFI booting is now available with secure boot.
- Hundreds of new utility packages have been added.
- Attempts at automatic configuration of complex block device layouts have been removed in favor of management through udisksctl with tab completion.
- Other obsolete features and boot modes have been discontinued or are no longer supported in favor of booting from the primary USB/CD.
