Developers of the free antivirus package ClamAV the issue of providing a signature database based on the collection distributed by Google , containing information about sites involved in phishing and distributing malware.
Previously, the signature database based on Safe Browsing was provided by ClamAV developers, but in November last year, its updates were halted due to restrictions imposed by Google. Specifically, the usage conditions for Safe Browsing were limited to non-commercial use, and for commercial purposes, a separate API was mandated. . Since ClamAV is a free product that cannot differentiate users and is also used in commercial solutions, the generation of signatures based on Safe Browsing was discontinued.
To tackle the issue of filtering links to phishing and malicious sites, a utility has now been prepared (clamsb), which allows users to independently generate a signature database for ClamAV in GDB format based on their account in the service and keep it synchronized.
