The developers of LibreOffice are considering alternatives to the use of the label "Personal Edition".
The head of the managing board of The Document Foundation, which oversees the development of the LibreOffice open-source suite, , reported that the board analyzed the community's feedback on delivering the LibreOffice office suite with the label "Personal Edition." A revised version of the , which will take into account the suggestions and wishes of the community representatives, is scheduled for release next Monday.
The final decision on adding the label will be made by July 17. Several scenarios are being considered:
The implementation of the marketing plan may be postponed until the release of LibreOffice 7.1, which would provide additional time to continue discussions.
The marketing plan could be realized in the 7.0.0 release, but instead of "Personal Edition," the standard package will most likely carry the label "Community Edition," while the extended paid versions proposed by ecosystem participants will be labeled "Enterprise Edition." Feedback and suggestions regarding the name choice will be accepted until July 17.
As an alternative, the second approach could be pursued, allowing for a label change in the 7.1 release after further review of feedback from the 7.0 release.
