A new version of the i3-compatible tiling window manager has been released Sway 1.5 (for Wayland and XWayland). The compositor library has been updated wlroots 0.11.0 (enabling the development of other WMs for Wayland). 78 developers contributed 284 changes, providing numerous new features and bug fixes. The main changes:
- Headless mode for running the environment without image output, can be used alongside WayVNC;
- Support for new protocols for text input (Input method editors — IME);
- Support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), including for improved gaming visuals;
- Support for the viewporter protocol, allowing the launch of legacy X11 games and improving their performance;
- Support for the wlr-foreign-toplevel-management protocol to enhance window tiling capabilities;
- Numerous updates in the wlroots library — changelog.
