Release of the EndeavourOS distribution 2020.07.15, continuing the development of the Antergos project

Published project release EndeavourOS 2020.07.15, replacing the Antergos distribution, which was has been put into operation. discontinued in May 2019 due to the remaining maintainers lacking the free time necessary to support the project adequately. The distribution offers a straightforward installer for setting up the Arch Linux base environment with Xfce desktop by default and the option to install one of 9 predefined desktops based on i3-wm, Openbox, Mate, Cinnamon, GNOME, Deepin, Budgie, and KDE. EndeavourOS allows users to install Arch Linux with the desired desktop exactly as intended in its standard setup provided by the developers of the chosen desktop, without additional pre-installed software. The size of the installation image 1.7 GB (x86_64).

The new release includes updated versions of programs, including the Linux kernel 5.7, Mesa 20.1.3, Firefox 78.0.2, and the Calamares installer 3.2.26. It features a simple and compact initial setup program called Welcome, through which users can perform operations like clearing the cache of installed packages, installing alternative Linux kernel packages from Arch repositories, adding buttons to launch arbitrary commands and scripts. Upcoming plans also include creating a build for devices based on ARM architecture.
