🥇Google and the Ubuntu development team announced applications on Flutter for desktop Linux systems

To date, over 500,000 developers worldwide are using Flutter — an open-source framework from Google designed for creating mobile applications. This technology is often presented as a replacement for React Native. Until recently, the Flutter SDK was available on Linux only as a solution for developing applications for other platforms. The new Flutter SDK allows developers to create applications for Linux systems.

Building Applications for Linux with Flutter

"We are excited to announce the release of the alpha version of Flutter for Linux. This release was prepared in collaboration with Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, the most popular Linux distribution for desktop computers," wrote Chris Sells from Google in his blog.

Just last year, Google stated that it wanted to port the Flutter build software to desktop platforms. Now, thanks to the collaboration with the Ubuntu Team, developers have the ability to create not only mobile applications but also applications for Ubuntu itself.

Meanwhile, Google assures that applications developed with Flutter for desktop Linux systems will provide all the functionality available to native applications due to extensive rework of the Flutter engine.

For example, Dart, the programming language underlying Flutter, can now be used for full integration with the capabilities provided by the desktop environment.

Alongside the Google team, Canonical's team is also involved in the development, with representatives stating that they will work on enhancing support for Linux and ensuring feature parity of the Flutter SDK with other platforms.
