Rust ranked among the top 20 most popular programming languages according to the Redmonk ranking.

Analytical company RedMonk released a new edition of the programming languages ranking, based on an assessment that combines popularity on GitHub with activity on discussions at Stack Overflow. Among the most notable changes is the entry of the Rust language into the top 20 most popular languages, displacing Haskell from the list. Compared to the previous edition published six months ago, C++ has moved up to fifth place, while Scala moved from 14th to 13th place. R dropped from 13th to 14th place, and Java lost one position, landing in third place (in the previous ranking, it was tied for second with Python).

The TIOBE popularity index builds its case based on an analysis of query statistics in search engines such as Google, Google Blogs, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, MSN, YouTube, Bing, Amazon, and Baidu. Over the year, the Rust language moved up in the TIOBE ranking from 33rd to 18th place, while Go rose from 16th to 12th place, Perl from 19th to 14th, and R from 20th to 8th.
