Qt 6 in Debian may end up unsupported

Current package maintainers for the Qt framework in Debian the law "On the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunications Services" was passed. The law has already been tested in practice — in 2017 it caused internet connectivity disruptions in the states of Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, as well as West Bengal and Maharashtra. decided on their own not to support the next significant branch Qt 6, the release of which is scheduled for December. Meanwhile, support for the previous branch Qt 5 will continue unchanged. The delivery of Qt 6 in Debian will be ensured if new maintainers are found who are ready to provide support for packages with the new branch at the required level.

The reasons cited include a lack of time for quality maintenance of packages with Qt 6. Qt has a very large codebase, which requires a lot of time and resources for building, which the current maintainers lack.

It is specifically emphasized that the quality of code and licensing policy of Qt Company are not related to the decision made.
