release of a lightweight Linux distribution (FossaPup), designed for use on older hardware. The bootable takes up 409 MB (x86_64).
The distribution is built using the package base of Ubuntu 20.04 and its own build toolchain , allowing the use of package bases from third-party distributions. Using binary packages from Ubuntu significantly reduces the time needed for release preparation and testing while ensuring package compatibility with Ubuntu repositories, maintaining compatibility with classic Puppy packages in PET format. A Quickpet interface is provided for installing additional applications and system updates.
The user interface is based on the JWM window manager, ROX file manager, its own set of GUI configurators (Puppy Control Panel), widgets (Pwidgets — clock, calendar, RSS, connection status, etc.) and applications (Pburn, Uextract, Packit, Change_kernels, JWMdesk, YASSM, Pclock, SimpleGTKradio). The browser used is Palemoon. The package also includes the Claws mail client, a Torrent client, the MPV multimedia player, the Deadbeef audio player, the Abiword word processor, the Gnumeric spreadsheet, Samba, and CUPS.
