Mozilla release , a specialized browser for virtual reality systems. Firefox Reality as an application for the Android platform and is available for 3D headsets such as Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Go, VIVE Focus, HoloLens 2, and Pico VR. The browser utilizes the full-fledged Quantum web engine but offers a fundamentally different three-dimensional user interface that enables navigation through websites within the virtual world or as part of augmented reality systems.
In addition to the interface designed for control via the 3D headset, which allows viewing traditional two-dimensional pages, the browser provides web developers with the WebXR and WebVR APIs with VR extensions for WebGL and CSS. These enable the creation of specialized three-dimensional web applications for interaction in virtual spaces and the implementation of new 3D navigation methods, information input mechanisms, and search interfaces. It also supports viewing spatial videos shot in 360-degree mode in the 3D headset. Control is performed through VR controllers, and data entry into web forms is done via a virtual or physical keyboard.
Among the extended user interaction mechanisms supported by the browser, a voice input system stands out, allowing users to fill out forms and submit search queries using the speech recognition engine developed by Mozilla. The browser provides a home page interface for accessing favorite content and navigating a collection of games, web applications, 3D models, and spatial videos adapted for 3D headsets.
In the new version:
- Support for extensions has been added. Available extensions include uBlock, Dark Reader, HTTPS Everywhere, and Privacy Badger.
- The capability for autocomplete of web form content has been implemented, including the memory of entered passwords.
- The design of the library providing access to bookmarks, browsing history, downloads, and extensions has been modified. The status bar now includes auxiliary indicators such as the battery level in the controller and the virtual reality headset, as well as the current time.
- The design of the recommended content screen (Content Feed) has been changed. A menu with categories has been added to the left side.
